The Brief
This song is motivating and edifying to Architects or not. The lyrics stir inspirations to everybody to give their share and participate in the transformative change in the process of making this world become a wholesome place to live life again like before. It reminds everyone that the original state of the Mother Earth was so clean and virtuous, but was mistreated by her own inhabitants of the past generations, and continuously ill-treated even by the age of the present.
Nevertheless, there is hope to restore the eminent majesty and glory of the Planet Earth, because there are Architects, who are professionally competent to perform and effect change by correcting the current illness of the abused environment, natural or human-made. Some Architects are visionaries and prudent enough who can prepare for preferred and aspired futures. With innate artistry and foresight, Architects have the technical expertise to plan and design buildings as they possess lawful authority in caring for the Function, Beauty, and Strength of habitable structures and their ancillary amenities.
The song gives inspiration to budding architects and those who are aspiring to become architects to make CHANGE happen into a reality with the conviction that they will be leaders to handle the everyday challenges in shaping a brighter tomorrow. Every Architect plays a significant role in building livable cities, healthy communities, and peaceful societies for the next generations to come. They are the Architects for Future; the City Changers; the Architects for Change, indeed!
The Song Gist
The first stanza.
“All came into this world, pretty and pure
Everyone can live, a home of treasure
A free place for all, sustainable home
Nurture the earth, with great celebration.”
This first stanza is about the beauty and the goodness of creation. When humans first occupy the earth, the place is so gorgeous, genuine, and not tainted with any undesirable elements. Every site is prepared for everybody to subdue and cultivate the land of abundance. Sufficient enough, provided with abundant natural resources needed for living.
Anybody has the freedom to utilize and consume these natural assets because of the fruitfulness and fertility of the place for habitation. One could not ask for more, but only with much more reason to appreciate the fullness of life and value its giftedness, to have a good time, express joy, gratitude, and praise The Maker.
The second stanza
“Though some people neglect, exploit and misuse
With no respect to care, they always abuse
When things go wrong, without direction
Our cities and landscapes need restoration.”
It singles out those inhabitants who intentionally disregard obligations or defy responsibilities they ought to perform in preserving and protecting the environment, the only planet provided for humanity in which they are part of it. Instead, they waste the resources and wrongfully use them for selfish motives because of greed and avarice.
The shape of cities and the futures of people are affected by corrupt and abusive political leaders in the guise of service but only care for their narcissistic benefits. There are abusers of the earth’s ecosystems, natural forms, natural features, of trees, of landscapes, of the creatures on earth. Therefore, continuous fight and other innovative strategies in regaining the dignity of the yards, the fields, and the streets of the neighborhood, must not be left defeated.
The Chorus.
“We are the architects for future
We are the architects for change
We are the architects who can perform
To make a change, we’re the City Changers.”
A constant reminder to people from the neighborhoods to the world that architects are champions in bringing positive change in the city. Eventually, this also means that every moment calls for architects to foresee the scenes of his immediate world since they are the ones who are prepared academically, in theory, and practice.
Their professional battle is to reshape unhealthy and unhappy cities and make a change for a better and much-preferred future. This is also a prudent invitation to some allied professionals, pseudo practitioners, public leaders and authorities to cooperate in the journey of change, by handing over the architectural planning and design of buildings to the competence of architects, the modeling of more beautiful habitable structures for the sake of creating an orderly planned and a wholesome built-environment.
Architects have the sole academic formation intended for the professional practice of Architecture. However, this occupation is freely practiced by some professional entities who are untaught of the architectural discipline. Others take a share in the profession who also wish to perform, yet fall short of legal qualifications and the mastery of this utilitarian art.
In effect, they would only display corny finesse and irking creations out of raw or uncooked expertise, with no regard to the synergy and dynamics of Function, Beauty, and Strength of utilitarian design artifacts.
The Third Stanza.
Time for a change, tomorrow is now
With those who take the challenge, we’re moving upfront
Whatever the challenge shall be with an open mind we will achieve
Let’s move on and make a change in what we believe.”
Every second is always a golden moment of opportunities that could not be delayed. Time is too short to cope up with the realities of the adverse effects of environmental destruction. Not only Architects are confronted in pursuing a new direction and invited to join the cause and the journey towards change, but all citizens of the world are responsible and accountable for the care of the earth.
Everyone is challenged to unlock their productive potentials, talents, skills, abilities to adequately dispose of by all means to avert the threatening condition of the earth today, and return its “kalokagathia*,” the beauty-goodness, to its decent state. Those who believe are encouraged to be bold, persistent, and persevering to restore the lost treasures of our beautiful land to bring change, make change happen, and be the change.
The Bridge.
“Skyscrapers, twin towers, offices and schools
The architects who made those happen didn’t play a fool
Houses and Castles describe civilization
Let’s make a change for our generation.”
Time and space reveal the wonders and brilliance of Architecture. From simple to grandiose functional edifices, Architects were equipped and steadfast in serving humanity in various phases of history. Precious time and energy were the costs in erecting those Euclidean structures, and where human senses served as measures to uplift human dignity.
By their aesthetic character, the remnants of those buildings constructed in the past, uncover and teaches us of the cultural, social, political conditions and value of the place, not to mention the climate and its geological influences. From domestic to social, and royal functions, architects were always the significant workers of change in every generation. They are the City Changers.
The Chant
We are the Architects, architects for future,
We are the Architects, architects for change
We are the Architects, viewers, and performers
We want to make a change; we are the City Changers
Every Architect is called to be bold and uphold his profession. By all means, he has to affirm and vigilant to protect what belongs to him. The way he disposes his expertise and delivers a job becomes a human-made environment. The quality of the environment where he lives defines the quality of the future.
